In April 2005 Takis Kayalis (academic coordinator of the research group) and Anastasia Natsina (postdoctoral researcher) conducted a research visit at the headquarters of the UK Open University in Milton Keynes. During the visit the two representatives of the research group has a series of extensive work meetings:

a) with members of the Department of Literature (the Head of the Department Professor Bob Owens and Professor Dennis Walder),
b) with members of the Department of Classics (the Head of the Department Professor Paula James, Professor Lorna Hardwick, Lecturer Dr. Felix Budelmann and research associate Carol Gillespie),
c) with members of the Institute of Educational Technology (Professor of Humanities Ellie Chambers and the Director of the Higher Education Research Group/HERG, Dr. Jan Parker) and
d) with administrative members of the University (Mr. Dominic Newbould, of the Office of International Relations, the Secretary for the Committee of Teaching and Learning Ms Kiki Ioannides, and others)

The two representatives of the research group were informed in detail on all aspects of the Literature and Classical Studies programs (organization of courses, supervision and evaluation, educational material, etc.), as well as on the methodology of writing, producing, evaluating and revising the educational material used at the University. They were also briefed on the research programs active in the Literature and Classical Studies programs: the programs “Book History and Bibliography” and “Colonial and Post-Colonial Literatures in English” at the Department of Literature; the programs “Didaskalia: Ancient Theatre Today” and “The Reception of the Texts and Images of Ancient Greece in Late Twentieth-Century Drama and Poetry in English” at the Department of Classical Studies. In addition, the two representatives were present at the meeting of the production group of the educational material for the new module “A219- Exploring the Classical World”, at the Department of Classical Studies.

In the context of the visit various and diverse forms of future collaboration of the research group have been programmed both with the Department of Literature at the Open University and with the Higher Education Research Group.

Throughout the duration of the visit the two representatives had full access to the library of the University where they studied the substantial educational material of humanities courses (both in printed matter and in audiovisual format). Finally, in the context of the research visit the two members of the group were admitted in the local center of the Open University in London, where they were extensively informed of the advisory and educational services offered to the students of the University.

The extensive report of the research visit as well as substantial educational material from the Program of Literary Studies of the Open University is at the disposal of the members of the group.
